Our Story

The Crows Farm was founded in 2015 by Matthew and Giana Cioni. Nestled in the beautiful Skagit County, Washington, we grow a diverse selection of certified organic herbs, veggies, and flowers with care and passion.

Matthew has a degree in Environmental Science, and after graduating, he joined the AmeriCorps program in Vermont with the Vermont Conservation Corps. He went on to work as a Park Ranger in two of Vermont’s beautiful state parks. During the off-season, he moved to Burlington, Vermont, and worked as a chef at one of the city’s oldest Italian restaurants—where he also tended to the restaurant’s garden, connecting his love for cooking and the land.

Giana graduated with a degree in Nutrition and Food Systems from the University of Vermont. After college, she discovered the world of Permaculture farming in Nicaragua, where she spent three months diving into sustainable farming practices and hands-on learning. She returned home to Vermont, where she and Matthew worked together at the same restaurant, continuing to nurture their shared love for growing food.

As winter set in and the snow piled up, we knew it was time for a change. We dreamed of a place where we could grow together, not just food, but a lifestyle that blends sustainability, community, and nature. The idea of The Crows Farm was born. Before we knew it, we were signing a lease for land, and our farm adventure had begun. Today, we’re proud to say our daughter Emilia and son Julian are growing alongside us, making this journey even more special.

About the Farm

As we head into our 11th farming season in 2025, we’re excited to continue growing and learning! Our farm is certified organic by Oregon Tilth, and we’re passionate about using farming methods that not only produce healthy food but also protect and enhance the sensitive land we work on.

We specialize in a wide variety of culinary herbs that we grow throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall. These herbs naturally attract pollinators, which helps support the health of the ecosystem around us. We also grow cover crops like buckwheat, winter rye, and vetch when our fields aren’t in production. These crops play a key role in preventing soil erosion, building healthy soil, and even capturing carbon dioxide to help combat climate change.

We believe that the foundation of delicious, nutrient-rich food starts with healthy soil, and we’re committed to practices that nurture the land and support long-term sustainability. Our farm is a place where every season brings new growth, and we're always excited to see what nature has in store for us.
